Dear Roger our beloved son:
This is Dad and Mom. We were asked to write something to you at the end of your AP English class. As Chinese parents, we didn’t read Hamlet but we do like to do the same thing a father likes to do to his son who is thousands mile away home and is aiming to a new journey to his life, especially at this special moment of Chinese New Year.
You are the youngest child of us, the most talented one, and the most pleasing one. But that does not mean you are the one deserving least cares or worries from us. Actually, because your artist character, you are also the most vulnerable one in our children, and needs a special attention and care from us.
On the New Year day, we made the following wishes to our heavenly father and advices to you:
1. Be easy: Put down everything when you have done your best or the most you can, leaving the rest and the outcomes to our God. He will takes care of the rest and arrange everything in a way that is naturally to be.
2. Be faithful to your God. Count on him. He will be everything good to you.
3. Be consistent and persistent. To your idea, to your goal, to your study and to your life.
4. Be sincere and be honest: Just like the name “實” we have given to you. Sincerity finds every possibility and every way for you.
How time fly. We can hardly admit you are already a young man of 19. In our deep heart, you are always the lovely, naughty boy and everlasting angel. We cannot imagine how beautiful and exciting the coming college life you will have. On the other hand, we foresee a greater load and responsibility on your shoulder. No matter how much challenges you will face in the future, remember, our dearest son, we will always be with you, just like your heavenly Father.
Love you the most,
Dad and Mom
On the second day of the New Year of Tiger
