Hey Fam!!
I arrived safely in Seattle! It is beautiful, green, watery, rainy like everybody have told me. I love it. It started raining on the way from the airport and mission! But they actually the summer is the only two months that doesn't rain too much.
I met my mission president and his wife, President and sister Larkin. They are wonderful. President Larkin, like we have heard, is an excellent mission president. When I had my first interview with him, I can just feel the Spirit as soon as I walk in the room. All his decisions, including finding new missionaries, coordinating companion-ships, are made by revelations. He said he and sister Larkin have been praying for a long time for a Chinese speaking missionary, and my name came up. I am so grateful and excited for this opportunity! I know this is the place that Lord really wants me to be, and I know that I am the Lord's servant that President Larkin was praying for, and I am going to do my best to be that servant.
Like we have all thought, my companion, or trainer is Elder Lee. He is from Taiwan. Mom talked to his mom on the phone. Elder Lee is a wonderful trainer!! He is hardworking, spiritual, humble, experienced, and has a strong testimony. I can't feel any luckier to have him to be my trainer. He grew up in the church. We knew that. But he lost his testimony before high school. In high school, he figured that he need to really think about whether this church is true and whether he should go on a mission. He gained his testimony back. I am glad he did because he can now train me.
The trainer and teaching this couple day is a little bit overwhelming. I had to teach on the very first night. The investigator is a girl from 內蒙古. She is wondering and questioning the purpose of her life!! So we have the exact answer that she is looking for. In the lesson, since it was my first time, Elder Lee taught the entire lesson. I learned a lot and the Spirit was strong. I bear my testimony about prayer at the end. She told us that she felt the Holy Ghost and have committed to pray at night. We are teaching her again today at 4.
There are a lot that I have learned and still need to learn. One thing we do here is street contacting. There is a big field called Red Square where students pass by to classes or library every day. We walk around the square and talk to the students there. 有點像搭訕. It is very hard. I am not comfortable with it at all. It's hard for me to just talk to someone I don't know and knowing that you will most likely be rejected. A lot of students are scared at us. They turn around if they see us walking toward them. 我們像是身邊有一個半徑十公尺的防護罩一樣. Elder Lee says this is very normal. We still succeeded to talk to many people, however. I am surprised that many students are actually interested about religion and how it can affect there lives. Anyway, street contacting is something I will be doing a lot. We have a goal that we need to contact 80 people everyday.
I love you all, and will keep praying for you! Write you again next Monday.
